If the Poker Alliance has their Way Everyone Will be Playing
In the land of the free and the home of the brave, it’s become close to impossible to play poker online. That is in the State of Washington where online poker has been deemed illegal. And that has been bad news for poker players in that state.
Class C Felony
It is a Class C Felony to play poker online in the State of Washington. What does that mean? It means a few things. Those who violate the law can get up to five years in jail and be fined $10,000. Of course that may not scare poker players away. The question in player’s minds being—how will they catch players? The other query being, how many can they really prosecute?
But it’s not the players who reacted to the enforcement of the law. It was the various poker sites, such as PokerStars, the largest site on the Internet, that pulled out of the state. And suddenly, poker players had fewer places to post their blinds.
Do You Have Any Choices?
It is hard to find a site that will allow players from Washington to play online poker. There are poker rooms that are still open to Washington players. It’s worth fishing around to see what’s out there, but even if you do get a chance to play, is it worth it when it comes to the ramifications of possibly getting caught? Or what of the site suddenly pulls the plug on players in the state?
Your best choice may be getting some local, live poker games going amongst friends. It’s not as convenient as the online scene and there’s far less action, but if you love poker it could keep you going for a while.
Poker Alliance and Legislation
The Poker Alliance is working with various US lawmakers to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). This is the act that makes it illegal for casinos to accept money from US players. They have the backing of a lot of people and although it’s said that they are close to getting the situation settled, the Alliance has not yet succeeded.
Hope on the Horizon
There is hope on the horizon for Washington online poker players. It’s hard to believe that players will be banned forever when it comes to gambling on the Internet. But it is frustrating for those who love to play. Keep your eyes open for ways in which some sites may be able and willing to get US players back onboard. There are opportunities but they are dwindling.
